‘Russia’s approach hasn’t changed: they strike where people are likely to be’ Moscow’s latest attacks in Ukraine kill civilians in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and beyond

Over the past week, Russian forces have carried out large-scale strikes on Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Kherson, and other Ukrainian cities. On June 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that since the start of the month, Russia had launched 2,736 drones of various types (including decoy drones) at Ukrainian territory. Russian troops have also continued to carry out missile strikes and drop aerial bombs. Meduza shares photos of the aftermath of just a few of Moscow’s most devastating attacks on Ukrainian cities.
Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. June 22, 2025. One day earlier, a four-story apartment building was destroyed by a Russian airstrike. Rescue workers spent two days clearing the rubble. According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, five people were killed and four others were injured.

A passenger train going from Odesa to Zaporizhzhia that was reportedly carrying over 500 passengers was hit by a Russian strike. “A civilian train, ordinary people. The Russians are terrorists disguised as a state solely for killing and profiting from war,” wrote Ukrainian Presidential Office Head Andriy Yermak.

June 28, 2025. On the evening of June 27, Russian forces launched a drone attack on Odesa. One strike caused apartments on several floors of a 21-story building to catch fire, killing local teacher Kateryna Borsynska and her husband, Valentyn, according to Suspilne. Seventeen people were injured.
