Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed Roscosmos chief Yury Borisov, according to a decree published on the Kremlin’s website.

He is being replaced by Dmitry Bakanov, a former deputy transport minister.

Borisov had led Roscosmos since July 2022, when he succeeded Dmitry Rogozin, who spent four years at the helm of the state space corporation.

After leaving Roscosmos, Rogozin announced that he had founded and was leading Tsar’s Wolves, a group of military advisers providing technical support to combat units of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republics.” In September 2023, Russian-appointed authorities in the annexed Zaporizhzhia region in Ukraine named him senator.
