Update: According to the latest figures from local authorities, nine civilians were killed in the attack, including an 11-year-old girl. Another 34 people were injured, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported.

Russian forces carried out a large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight on Monday, killing at least six civilians and injuring more than a dozen others, according to local officials and Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office.

As of 8:30 a.m. local time, authorities said six people had been killed and 16 others wounded, including a 15-year-old girl. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported 19 total injuries, with eight people hospitalized.

The attack destroyed part of a five-story apartment building in the capital’s Shevchenkivskyi district. Rescue operations are ongoing, and there are fears that people remained trapped under the rubble. A neighboring building sustained blast damage and nearby parked cars burned.

Strikes also hit other parts of Kyiv, damaging private homes, apartment blocks, office buildings, restaurants, kiosks, and vehicles.

In the wider Kyiv region, one civilian was killed and eight others were injured, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported. Two rescue workers were also hurt while assisting at the scene.

In Ukraine’s Kherson region, a Russian drone strike killed one civilian in the town of Beryslav, according to the regional prosecutor’s office.

Late on Sunday, Russian forces launched a missile strike on the Zaporizhzhia region, temporarily knocking out power to nearly 5,000 households, said Governor Ivan Fedorov. Power had been partially restored by Monday morning.

According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched 368 aerial weapons beginning the night of June 22. The barrage included 352 drones — among them Shahed-type attack drones and decoy UAVs — as well as 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and five Iskander-K cruise missiles. Kyiv was the main target.

Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted 354 of the incoming threats, shooting down five cruise missiles, seven ballistic missiles, and 146 drones. Three ballistic missiles and 193 drones were “lost from radar,” the Air Force said.

“Direct hits by enemy aerial weapons were recorded at six locations, and debris from intercepted targets fell at 25 sites in Kyiv and the surrounding region,” the military added.
