Kyiv death toll hits 31 as rescue workers recover 13 more bodies from apartment building struck by Russian missile

Update: As of 10:40 a.m. local time Friday, rescue workers had recovered three more bodies, bringing the death toll from the July 31 Russian strike to 31, according to Kyiv’s military administration.

Ukrainian rescue workers recovered 10 more bodies overnight and into the morning on Friday from the rubble of a nine-story apartment building in Kyiv hit by a Russian missile, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Among the dead is a two-year-old child.

As of 6:31 a.m. local time, officials reported that 26 people had been killed in the overnight attack on July 31. By 8:30 a.m., Kyiv’s military administration updated the death toll to 28. A total of 159 people were injured, including 16 children, according to emergency services.

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.

Kyiv has declared August 1 a day of mourning.
