During a Russian attack on Ukraine early on Wednesday, drones crossed into Polish airspace, forcing the temporary closure of four airports, including both in Warsaw.

Polish and NATO aircraft were scrambled to intercept them, Gazeta Wyborcza reported.

Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command called the incursion “an act of aggression that created a real threat to the safety of our citizens.”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he had informed the NATO secretary general of the incident. He also convened an emergency government meeting.

Residents were urged not to approach downed drones. Officially, Polish authorities have not said which country the drones belonged to.

Ukrainian media reported that at least 10 Russian drones entered Polish airspace overnight. By morning, Ukrainian monitoring groups said, no foreign drones remained over Polish territory.
